Silicone rubber is everywhere around us – from kitchen tools and baby products to medical parts and electronic components. What makes it so popular is its flexibility, heat resistance, and stability. But making silicone rubber isn’t as easy as it looks. The material is very sticky and thick, which means it needs special equipment for mixing.
Unlike normal mixers, a double arm mixer is built with two sigma-shaped blades that mix the materials. This movement creates strong shear and pressure, which is exactly what you need for high viscosity materials like silicone rubber.

One interesting part about silicone rubber production is that not every recipe is the same.
Some types of silicone need to be heated during mixing, either by electric heaters or thermal oil, to make the material flow better or to start curing reactions.
Others actually get too hot on their own during mixing. In those cases, the machine needs a cooling system with water circulation to keep the temperature under control.
That’s why kneaders are usually designed with jackets or mold temperature controller – so they can either heat or cool, depending on what the customer needs.
Example: 100L Kneader for Greece

Karvil recently delivered a 100L sigma kneader mixer to a customer in Greece for food-grade silicone rubber.
Here’s what makes this machine stand out:
Screw discharge with DN100 valve – perfect for sticky silicone rubber that doesn’t flow easily.
Cooling jackets on both the shafts and the screw barrel – keeps the product at the right temperature.
All contact parts in SS304 stainless steel, mirror polished – easy to clean and hygienic.
15 kW Siemens motor with inverter – stable drive and adjustable mixing speed.
Inspection manhole and sight glasses – operators can keep an eye on the process safely.
In this case, the client chose water cooling, but for another project, the same design could come with heating jackets instead.
Why Karvil?
We’ve been making sigma kneaders for over 20 years, and our machines are now running in more than 50 countries. Every customer has different requirements, and we customize the design – whether that means special blades, screw discharge, or heating and cooling systems.
Silicone rubber is a tricky material. Some batches need extra heat, while others require constant cooling. The sigma kneader offers both options, along with the strong mixing power needed for high-viscosity materials.
At Karvil Machinery, we’re proud to provide reliable solutions that help our customers keep production efficient and products consistent.
